Broken Ladder

BEFORE YOU BEGIN know how to make a Right Hand Double Knot and a Left Hand Double Knot.

1. Pick 4 different colors. This instruction uses orange, white, pink & yellow.

2. Align string, fold in half, and tie knot 1/2 from fold forming a loop.

3. Attach your string to something using a safety pin or attach to a clipboard.

4. Separate strings from 1 to 8. Use the same color for strings 1 & 8 (orange), 2 & 7 (white), 3 & 6 (pink) and 4 & 5 (yellow). This will align the colors of your bracelet pattern.

5. To start, you will need to make 4 single Arrows (see Arrow Pattern for instructions). One with each of your 4 colors.

6. Once your arrows are complete take string #1 (orange) in your right hand and strings #2 (white), #3 (pink) & #4 (yellow) in your left hand. Take string #1 (orange) and make 10 single right hand knots over your 3 combined strings. String #2 (orange) will be come string #4 once compete. String 2 will now become white, string 3 pink & string 4 yellow.

7. Now you will do the same steps on the other side. Take string #8 (orange) in your left hand and strings #7 (white), #6 (pink) & #5 (yellow) in your right hand. Use string #8 (orange) and make 10 single left hand knots over your 3 combined strings. String #8 (orange) will become string #5. String 9 will now become white, string 8 pink & string 7 yellow.

8. Your pattern will now start all over with your new strings. Make an arrow with each of your 4 colors in order (white, pink, yellow & orange). Orange should be your 4th arrow this time. Once your arrows are complete take string #1 (white) in your right hand and strings #2 (pink), #3 (yellow) & #4 (orange) in your left hand. Take string #1 (white) and make 10 single right hand knots over your 3 combined strings. String #1 (white) will become string #4. String 2 will now become pink, string 3 yellow & string 4 orange.

9. Now you will do the same steps on the other side. Take string #8 (white) in your left hand and strings #7 (pink), #6 (yellow) & #5 (orange) in your right hand. Use string #8 (white) and make 10 single left hand knots over your 3 combined strings. String #9 (white) will become string #5. String 9 will now become pink, string 8 yellow & string 7 orange.

10. Continue to follow steps 8 & 9 with each new set of strings (the order of colors will change from those listed in the example) until you think your bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist.

11. Once you bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist take strings 1-3 in your left hand and stings 6-8 in your right hand and braid with the remaining 2 center strings.

12. Take the braided strings and tie two basic knots at the end of your friendship bracelet.

13. Unpin or unclip your friendship bracelet and cut off the excess braided section. Your friendship bracelet is ready to wear or share with your best friend or mom.
