Lance caught up with Valerie.

"Look, I know I'm probably the last person you wanna talk to right now, but you gotta listen to me," he pleaded.

"How can I listen to you when I can't even trust you? When you kissed another girl right in front of me?" Valerie questioned.

"It didn't mean anything!" Lance defended himself.

Valerie shook her head in disbelief.

"How can a kiss not mean anything? It had to have meant something for you kiss her, Lance!"

Lance grabbed her arm, pulling her towards him. As she fell into him, he leaned closer, and their lips touched. For that split second he felt nothing less than pure ecstasy and the feelings he couldn't bare to put aside anymore. He had to make things right with her, he couldn't bare to live another day without her by his side, assuring him of the love they still shared.

Valerie pulled away, shocked. She couldn't help but feel a sense of longing, tugging at her heart. She tried to put the emotions behind her, she didn't want him to think he had had an effect on her. She didn't want him to know how much she still longed for his touch, or the way his eyes told her everything and made her melt in his love for her.

"That was a kiss that meant something, Val. It meant everything I believe true, my undying love for you, and how impossible it would be to live without you. I love you, and I would do nothing to hurt you. But if you don't trust me now then, I don't believe in all our life together, you ever have."

Lance turned to leave, his heart cold and spirit weakened.

"Lance," Valerie called to him.

He looked back at her, waiting for what she had to say.

She walked up to him, tears threatening to flood from her eyes.

"Lance, don't go. I love you."

"I love you too, Val." He embraced her in his sheltering arms, the tears escaping from her eyes as he kissed her forehead softly.

Lauren watched as Lance ran after Valerie. Defeat weighed down on her. She wasn't going to let Valerie win again, she was determined to get what she wanted. She started to follow after Lance when Nikki stepped in front of her.

"Games over, Lauren. You lost again. So I suggest you haul your ass back to your trailer trash home before you get it kicked, and hard this time," Nikki said, warning Lauren not too mess with her friends anymore.

Lauren lost control at Nikki's statement.

"Oh, I'll kick your ass if that's what you want!" she screamed as she pulled back her fist. She threw her punch, hitting Nikki in the right side of her jaw.

Nikki took out the pain in her jaw on Lauren. She reared up, hitting Lauren as hard as she could across the bridge of her nose. Lauren fell back clutching her face in pain. The initial impact had broken her nose, she could feel the swelling as warm blood gushed in between her parted fingers.

"Don't you ever try to hit me again, and don't you ever come near Lance or try to hurt any of my friends ever again. 'Cos if you do I swear you'll get more than just a broken nose, and that's a promise," Nikki threatened Lauren.

Nikki turned back to her friends, the four returned to their table. The crowd that had gathered to watch at the prospect of a fight, returned to their tables and the close to vacant dance floor. Lauren was left all by herself to drown in her humiliation.

Lance tapped on the outside of Valerie's bedroom window. Getting up, she left the warmth of her bed at the sound of his tapping. She opened the window and peered out to him with a smile.

"Hey you, going out?" She asked him.

"Yeah, hittin' the club again," Lance said, hoping she'd offer to join him.

"Need some company?"

He smiled at her. "Only if it's you." Lance and Valerie danced in time to the music blasting throughout the club. As the music slowed down, Lance wrapped his arms around Valerie's waist. Snaking her's around his neck she rested her head on his shoulder.

"I'm really gonna miss you," Lance said out of the blue.

Valerie looked up at him, and smiled "I'm gonna miss you, too sweetie," she said.

Reaching up she ruffled his blonde hair playfully. He pulled away, and looked back at her seriously.

"No, it's not that. I mean we just got back to normal and I kinda wanted to spend some time with you before you're in Orlando all summer."

"It's only a temporary thing, and besides, you don't think I'm gonna start neglecting you just because I finally have a life outside of the city limits of Clinton, Mississippi?"

"You're right, I'm acting stupid. I just-"

Valerie cut him off, "You just love me too much to share me with Orlando for the summer."

"Yeah, something like that babe."

Lance bent down and kissed her compassionately, as he hugged her closer to him. He was glad he'd at least get to spend the rest of the night with her before she left.

Lance walked his girlfriend up to her bedroom window. Once upon reaching it he turned to face her. He leaned in, kissing her long and passionately. As their lips parted he reached down into his left pocket.

"What's up?" Valerie asked noticing him pull something out from his jacket pocket.

"I wanted to give you something before you left tonight," he answered simply.

"Aw, you didn't have to babe," Valerie said.

Lance took her hand in his, slipping a small silver ring onto her ring finger. Valerie looked at the ring and back to him in confusion.

"It's a promise ring," he told her, answering her mind's silent question.

Valerie looked down at the ring in awe. "It's beautiful."

Painted in the center of the ring was a tiny, rose colored heart. The small heart was centered between two Chinese symbols carved into the silver. The two symbols stood for love and eternity. She recognized them instantly, both being her favorite chinese symbols.

"I'm glad you like it," Lance said relieved.

Valerie looked back at him and smiled. "I'm never taking it off."

A silence settled over them as they they stood in front of Valerie's house in the dark. Valerie yawned, it was 4 a.m. already. They had been at the club since 11:30 that night.

Yawning again she said, "I guess we better say good-bye now since I have an early flight in 4 hours."

Lance nodded. They shared one more passion filled kiss before he said good bye telling her he loved her. He disappeared into the darkness as he left for his own home. Valerie re-opened her bedroom window and crawled back through. Not bothering to change into her pajamas, she collapsed onto her bed. Before she fell asleep she thought of Lance and the ring he had given her. She loved it, and it made her feel warm inside to be thought of like that. Rolling over she closed her eyes, and drifted off into a peaceful sleep. "Val, hurry up! Your plane leaves in an hour!" Christine, Valerie's mother, called to her from the living room.

Valerie rushed out from her room with the last of her suitcases. "All ready mom," she informed her mother.

Christine looked at her daughter with a frown. "You look horrible sweetie, did you not sleep well?"

"Not really, my nerves are getting to me," Valerie lied.

"Oh, hunny, there's nothing to be worried about. You'll do just fine!" She grabbed her purse and keys, and headed for the door, "Okay, let's go before you miss your flight."

Valerie followed her mother out the front door. She dropped her suitcases into the bottom of the car's trunk and jumped into the passenger's side. Christine started the engine and backed out of the drive-way.

"8 a.m. flight to Orlando now boarding," a flight attendant called over the loud speaker.

"That's me," Valerie said more to herself.

"I love you sweetie, have fun," Christine told her daughter, kissing her on the cheek.

"Love you too mom, I'll call." She grabbed her carry-on bag and made way to the boarding gate. Once on the plane she took her seat, stashing her carry-on in the overhead compartment. She rested back in her seat and waited for the flight attendant's instructions for take off.
