BEFORE YOU BEGIN making your friendship bracelet know how to make a Right Hand Double Knot and a Left Hand Double Knot.

1. Pick 2 colors for this pattern. You will need 2 strands of each color you choose. This instruction uses pink & white where the heart design is pink).

2. Align string, fold in half, and tie knot 1/2 from fold forming a loop.

3. Attach your string to something using a safety pin or attach to a clipboard.

4. Separate strings from 1 to 8. Use the same color for strings 1 & 8 (pink), 2 & 7 (white), 3 & 6 (pink) and 4 & 5 (white). This will align the colors of your bracelet pattern.

5. To begin take string #1 (pink) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on strings #2 (white), #3 (pink) & #4 (white). String #1 will become string #4 once complete.

6. Now take string #8 (pink) and make 4 left hand double knots. One each, on stings #7 (white), #6 (pink), #5 (white) & #4 (pink). String #9 (pink) will now become string #4. Your pink strings should be joined together in the center now.

7. Next take string #1 (white) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on strings #2 (pink), #3 (white) & #4 (pink). String #1 (white) will become string #4 once complete.

8. Use string #8 (white) and make 4 left hand double knots. One each, on strings #7 (pink), #6 (white), #5 (pink) & #4 (white). String #8 (white) will now become string #4. Your white strings should be joined in the center.

9. Now take string #2 (white) and make a left hand double knot onto string #1 (pink). String #2 (white) will now become string #1.

10. Take string #7 (white) and make a right hand double knot onto string #8 (pink). String #7 (white) will now become string #8.

11. Next take string #2 (pink) and make 2 right hand double knots. One each, on strings #3 (pink) & #4 (white). String #2 (pink) will now become string #4.

12. Use string #7 (pink) make 3 left hand double knots. One each, on strings #6 (pink), #5 (white) & #4 (pink). String #7 (pink) will now become string #4.

13. Now take string #2 (pink) and make a left hand double knot onto string #1 (white). String #2 (pink) will now become string #1.

14. Use string #7 (pink) and make a right hand double knot onto string #8 (white). String #7 (pink) will now become string #8.

15. These next two steps are for making the inside of your heart. Take string #2 (white) and make 2 right hand double knots. One each, on strings #3 (white) & #4 (pink).

16. Now take string #7 (white) and make 3 left hand double knots. One each, on strings #6 (white), #5 (pink) & #4 (white). String #7 (white) will now become string #4.

17. Use string #1 (pink) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on strings #2 (white), #3 (pink) & #4 (white). String #1 (pink) will now become string #4.

18. Next, take string #8 (pink) and make 4 left hand double knots. One each, on strings #7 (white), #6 (pink), #5 (white) & #4 (pink). String #8 (pink) will now become string #4 and this will complete the bottom of your heart.

19. Take string #1 (white) and make 3 right hand double knots. One each, on strings #2 (pink), #3 (white) & #4 (pink). String #1 will now become string #4.

20. Use string #8 (white) and make 4 left hand double knots. One each, on strings #7 (pink), #6 (white), #5 (pink) & #4 (white). String #8 will now become string #4 and your first entire heart pattern is complete.

21. Repeat steps 9 - 20 to continue your heart pattern until you think it’s long enough to fit your wrist.

22. Once you bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist take strings #1, #2 & #3 in your left hand and strings #6, #7 & #8 in your right hand. Braid the strings from your left hand and right hands with the two center strings.

23. Take the braided strings and tie two basic knots at the end of your friendship bracelet.

24. Unpin or unclip your friendship bracelet and cut off the excess braided section. Your friendship bracelet is ready to wear or share with your best friend or mom.
